100 Miles for a Cause: Our Journey with the Irish Hospice Foundation

When Domestic & General decided to take on the “100 Miles” challenge in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation, we knew it wasn’t just about logging miles. It was about making every step, every effort, count for something much greater than ourselves.

Why Running (or Walking) 100 Miles Matters

Putting one foot in front of the other for 100 miles might sound like a big ask. But it’s precisely that scale which links beautifully with the meaningful cause we’re supporting. Here’s why this matters:

  • It’s visible commitment. Choosing to do something challenging shows that this isn’t just “another charity line”  it’s a personal investment in time, body and spirit.
  • It creates conversation. People ask what you’re doing, why you’re doing it; and in doing so you raise awareness for hospice, end-of-life and bereavement care, topics that often go unspoken.
  • It raises funds and hope. The money raised will help the Irish Hospice Foundation deliver vital services to people facing life’s most difficult transitions. Their work is needed. ‌
  • It builds community. Whether we’re walking together, encouraging each other or cheering each other on, this 100-mile journey becomes a metaphor for solidarity and support.

The Impact of the Irish Hospice Foundation

We chose the Irish Hospice Foundation because of the tremendous and ongoing impact they have across Ireland.

  • They ensure that everyone, whatever their illness, whatever their age, has access to support and care when facing end-of-life and bereavement.
  • They provide essential services such as a Bereavement Support Line, an Information & Support Line
  • Their vision is rooted in the belief that every death matters and we only have one chance to get it right.

Why We’re Doing This

In our work at Domestic & General, we’ve witnessed many life-changing moments, many stories of people doing their best under difficult circumstances. When we learned that the IHF is deeply involved in those most vulnerable moments, helping families, supporting carers, offering comfort and dignity, we realized a 100-mile challenge felt like a small but meaningful way we could stretch beyond our usual remit and support something truly human.

What’s Next (and How You Can Help)

  • We’ll be tracking our progress, sharing updates, and inviting everyone to join - either by walking/running a few of those miles with us, cheering us on, or donating what you can.
  • If you’re inspired, you can head to our iDonate fundraising page to donate and share.
  • Share the story. Talk about why hospice care matters. Mention the Irish Hospice Foundation. The more normal we make end-of-life conversations, the more empowered people will be when the time comes.

Doing something like 100 miles isn’t really about the distance. It’s about turning effort into empathy. It’s about recognizing that in our society, we often shy away from death, from saying goodbye, from acknowledging grief. And yet, these are some of the most universal and human experiences there are.

By supporting the Irish Hospice Foundation, we’re saying: We see you. We will stand with you. We believe everyone deserves dignity, support and care.

Let’s make these 100 miles count for something far bigger.🌻
